The government has announced new minimum wages rates effective from 1st October 2014. The 3% increase to £6.50 per hour for those aged over 21 is above the rate of inflation for the first time in six years. Those aged 18-20 will receive an increase of 10p to £5.13 per hour, 16 and 17 years old will receive an additional 7p per hour giving them £3.79 and apprentices increase by 5p to £2.73.
